Project Alpha Legion 4 – the first 500.

I actually had this post written quite a while ago, but things have changed quite a bit.  Life happened, and as you can see, there hasn’t been any updates for quite a while.  To make up for that I’ve actually got pictures…

The first 500 points:

-Chaos Terminator Lord (still missing arms, I’m looking for something special for the lightening claws.  honestly he’s a little small though… or at least compared to Anime-X’s Ork Warboss which is based off of Gazgul… i think i just need more bits)
-1 Obliterator
-2x 5 man chaos marines one of which has a melta gun
-4 terminators, heavy flamer and power fist (yes i know there are 3 power fists modeled but that doesn’t apply until after we scale up to 1000 and 1500.  for now assume they just have the power set to low. :P )

In addition, Avatar Comics somehow got a hold of some GW special boxes and i was lucky to grab the Chaos Rhino/unit combo box.  Honestly the Space Marine tac box would have been better but that one comes with a drop pod rather than a rhino so I’ll make due.

Finally, it appears as though what started as a personal project, combined with the rumors of 6th edition, has started a bit of a GW revival.  So stay tuned for additional pics as joining me in my new army paint and build will be Anime-X with Orks, Joe of Avatar Comics with Space Wolves, with possible additional appearances of Necrons, Eldar, and who knows what else.  The only rule being that the army must have started this year as unpainted, and is getting built up to 1500 points.

oh my, this is starting to get good…

Project Alpha Legion 3 – The models (and the money)

Now that we have our army list, its time to get some miniatures.  Sadly neither minis nor money grows on trees so we are going to have to be a little cost effective here.  So what I’ve done is put together what i feel is the MOST cost effective way for me to build this army, while still getting everything i want.

Oh yeah, also there is one additional bit.

I hate Chaos Marines without helmets, or helmets with horns on their head.

Dark Helmet knows

Good is Dumb because they take off their helmets and get shot in the face!

So lets get this started.

Project Alpha Legion 2 – The List

Continuing with what i hope to be a new series of articles, lets take a look at what might be the best place to begin building a Warhammer 40k, or really any table top army, the army list.

With the end of 5th edition quite literally on the horizon, and not a single tournament planned i have decided that my goals for this army are going to be a little different from your normal Plague Marine/Oblit spam… in fact lets start with a set of goals for this army

1. Not a net list: this one is quite simple, just avoid the usual chaos spam (there really is only one or two acceptable Chaos builds right now given that there isn’t much flexibility in the current codex).  Since i do not intend to take 3×3 Oblit spam, i feel I’m already on the right track.

2. Feels like Alpha Legion: Now what is it that comes to mind when we think Alpha Legion.  Cultist, Traitors, Infiltrator, no daemons.

War cry of the Aplha Legion

This may honestly become my armies battle cry.

3. Ease of conversion into the potential 6th edition Chaos Codex: OK, this one is admittedly much harder.  Currently all we have are rumors, and if the rumors are even passingly true then the Alpha Legion will have a nice long wait till their codex rules see print.  Until then, they will need to be played as generic Chaos Marines, or worse… *gasp* 5th edition CSM.

So with those 3 guidelines in mind lets get a building

Project Alpha Legion 1 – a return to Chaos.

It goes without saying that i’ve played a table top game or two in my life. Malifaux, Warmachine, Heavy Gear, Dystopian Wars. But in between playing all of these games i just can’t help but come back to the one that suckered me into it all… Warhammer 40k. Dam you Grim Dark!
