Anime Nights in Las Vegas

Writer is not amused... wait, yes he isLas Vegas has kind of a bad reputation in the Anime Community.  First there was the failed Vegas Comic-con… what?  Never heard of it?  Exactly.  Next is Anime Vegas, which while it had potential, has in later years fallen a bit, and generated a bit of a reputation as a glorified day care of pre-teens screaming about in poor japanese.  I will not even dignify Supercon, or any of the other upstart attempts.

All in all, it has left a somewhat sour taste in my mouth and a cynical attitude.

So it is with a bit of Cautious Optimism that i’m going to link this here.

Shonen Vegas in conjunction with multiple other groups are working to bring a bit of the Anime for a strangely under represented part of the Community… adults.

For start Anime Nights is a 21+ event.  We are 100% serious.  Anyone who has hung out with us knows that Shonen Vegas Rule #2 is: We Card, and this is one of the primary reasons we are throwing in our support with this event.  Leave your kids at home, this is not a day care, and honestly we don’t particularly care if this excludes a large chunk of the community.

Secondly, i want to say that this is not an “Adult” event.  We are not going to be showing porn every week.  Don’t show up expecting a drunken party.  This event is for the older anime crowd.  People who don’t want to hang out with teens, but still enjoy the social side of things, can have a drink responsibly (this is vegas, i didn’t say there would be no drinking) and just want to spend a few hours hanging out with like minded people in a chill relax atmosphere… with some kick ass anime playing in the background.  There will be a mix of whats new, with some old school favorites thrown in.

The First event is looking to happen on Feb 17th, 7pm at: 520 Fremont Street, 2nd Floor, Las Vegas, NV 89101

Hope to see you there.

DUST: the gateway drug for tabletop

It kind of goes without saying that we like games.  So it is with very little surprise that when myself and Anime-X were hanging out at Avatar comics (linked on our main page) at 2 am, poor (or arguable good) decisions were made and money was spent.  The result was…

Dust LogoFor those of you who don’t know, let me give you the quick breakdown.  Preassembled, not prepainted (but it is primed), miniature based game set in alternate modern timeline.  The game however is a “TACTICS” game.  Much like Final Fantasy Tactics or perhaps Valkyria Chronicles.  Pics below show what comes in the box, or i’ve made the logo clickable to Fantasy Flights website about the game.

Cosplay Project: Sengoku Basara

I’ll start with the basics.

basara logo

Sengoku Basara is a series of games much like Dynasty Warriors.  You are a singular badass who fights the entire population of a country who’s sole existence in life is to get slaughtered by you.  Here is the opening for the latest game.

In addition Basara was made into a 2 season anime composing of 12 episodes.  This roughly follows the story of a few characters looking to take down a few other characters who are being a bunch of jerks.  Opening for the anime pretty much gives you the idea.

For those of you watching, have watched or are thinking of watching the anime.  It is at the same time the manliest and the gayest anime ever.  Inuyasha and kagome can only wish to have the passion of Sanada Yukimura and Takeda Shingen

Now that i have spammed you with enough links lets get on to the good stuff.

The One-Eyed Dragon is not just for show

Going to keep this post short and get right to the good stuff.

I’m sure you have heard us make comments about how Anime LA was made awesome by meeting awesome people.  One of those people is Masa, who appropriately cosplayed the character Date Masamune from Basara.  In fact, it is somewhat Masa’s fault that we are now planning a new cosplay for the next convention we are attending.  You may have noticed the nifty new link on the right for Fanime…
